I really appreciated this unit and all of its lessons. When doing the final project in this unit I could really see a change in my work. This final project in the unit was fun, but also challenging because it took all the major key factors from all the other lessons and put them into one. I think the part of the lessons that I really loved was when we worked on shading, so I really wanted to show that in my work. One of the hardest lessons for me were the sketching lessons, so when I started to sketch the building I had some trouble. Some of the lines of the build are not perfect but I think that gives the work a bit of character. Anyways I sketched this building at the Medfield State Hospital, and then went home and added the shading and details. Something I really like about this piece is the details I added around the roof. I really loved how the building had so many small details on it. In the end I really loved this unit and learned a lot!
The artist I chose to do more research on and learn about is Claude Monet. Claude brought the rise of impressionism to the art world. Many doubted or disliked the work at the time since the style at the time was to copy other works or do portraits of people. Claude's work changed the art scene and still has an impact on the world today. If I could even get a piece of work from Claude Monet I would defiantly hang it in my home. His work reflects beautiful scenes that captivate the eye and also paint a story. His work makes the viewer relaxed as if they were walking through his own gardens that are portrayed in his many works. Monet's work would turn the wall its hung on into a window into a beautiful landscape.
The two videos that I watched both show that artists observe by seeing the untold beauty in things and places. Both artists in each video tried to capture humans interacting with the environment that was already set up. These artists register the world around them by planning out and creating scenes. Deb, the first artist in the first video, makes out huge story boards using texts and images then creates new work with those materials. She takes something that could be seen as ordinary and adds new life to it. Katie, the second artist in the second video, takes ordinary places and adds different art that is used when she photographs a scene. She uses ordinary and unsuspecting people to convey an even bigger picture. Both of these contemporary artists add new meaning to the normal everyday world.
